WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Brat released a statement following the failed vote on the Goodlatte compromise immigration reform bill (H.R. 4760) in the U.S. House of Representatives:

“History has proven that amnesty without real border security begets more amnesty. We need to make sure we turn off the magnet drawing illegal immigrants to illegally cross our borders – otherwise, we’ll be back to where we are today in the next 5 or 10 years. We need a permanent solution. The only bill strong enough to turn off that magnet so far is the Securing America’s Future Act. It curbs chain migration, ends the diversity visa lottery, reforms the process for asylum seekers, provides a solution for 700,000 DACA recipients, strengthens the border and most importantly implements an employer e-verify system.

“The Democrats shut down the government in January and demanded a compromise bill that would help the DACA recipients. This bill was a good faith response to their request.

“Democrats’ lax enforcement open border policies created our broken immigration system. Rather than help fix the mess, Democrats refuse to be a part of the solution. It is a shame this measure failed today. Unfortunately, we are no closer to solving our border crisis and the lawlessness present in our current immigration system.”
