WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Office of Representative Dave Brat announced the winners of the 7th District of Virginia’s 2018 Congressional Art Competition. Kyla Towles, student at Hermitage High School, won the first place prize, and her art will be on display at the U.S. Capitol. Addi Mansini from Machester High School won second place. Thomas Canady from S. Michael the Archangel High School won the third place prize. Photos from last week’s award ceremony can be found here.

“One measure of art is its ability to communicate truth and beauty to the viewer. Rembrandt once said, ‘Painting is the grandchild of nature. It is related to God.’  Art has the ability to lift the human spirit and by that standard, I am delighted to announce Kyla Towles as the winner of the 7th District of Virginia’s 2018 Congressional Art Competition and am glad she will be able to display her art in the U.S. Capitol.

“I also want to thank each and every student from Culpeper, Louisa, Spotsylvania, Goochland, Henrico, Chesterfield, Orange, Powhatan, Amelia, Nottoway and Powhatan for their outstanding achievements. It was truly a treat to be able to meet all of these artists and to see their art with them and ask them questions about how they view the world and how they express it through their art, and I applaud these students for their dedication to their craft.

“Last, I would like to thank Capital One for hosting their art and posting the art digitally for all to see.”
