WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, in honor of April 17, 2018, which is the last day Americans can file their federal taxes for 2017, Rep. Dave Brat released the following statement:

“Out with the old, in with the new – this is the last day Americans have to file their taxes using the outdated and frustrating tax code. Next year, filing taxes will be simpler, and you’ll get to keep more of your hard-earned money.

“Because federal tax withholdings in 2018, starting in January Americans are seeing more money in their pockets from their paychecks – and they like it. According to a New York Times poll, the majority of Americans support tax reform. There are tax cuts at every income level and a nearly doubled standard deduction.

“Moreover, the Republican Tax Cuts and Jobs Act serves as an organic stimulus package for the economy in our beloved state. Virginians should expect to see 24,114 new full-time jobs and a $2,525 increase in income for median households, according to the Tax Foundation.

“Democrats would like to repeal this tax code and raise taxes, because they argue they can spend your money better than you can. Republicans disagree. Tax Day serves as a reminder about voters’ choices.”
