WASHINGTON - Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.) announced the introduction of the American Labor, Wages, and Sovereignty Act (American LAWS Act), H.R. 4340 with Congressman Lamar Smith (R-Tx.). The legislation contains provisions to eliminate the visa lottery program, end chain migration, and institute mandatory E-Verify.

Rep. Brat released the following statement:

“It is time to move towards an immigration policy that serves our national interest and puts Americans’ jobs, safety, and sovereignty first. For too long, Congress has stood by and let our immigration system spiral out of control and the American people are expecting members of Congress to do their job and keep their promises.

“My legislation combines together three common-sense policy provisions to meet the challenges plaguing our immigration system. Americans are rightfully concerned that our government is turning a blind eye to ending visa programs that present a clear national security risk, allowing unsustainably high levels of unskilled immigration to persist, and harming U.S. workers by forcing them to compete for jobs with illegal aliens.”

Rep. Brat’s legislation includes the following:

1.    The legislation eliminates the visa lottery program that has been responsible for allowing foreign nationals with no ties to our country to enter through random computer selection with no regard to their skills.

2.    The bill stems the unlimited flow of immigration by ending chain migration of non-nuclear family.

3.    Third, it would cut off the jobs magnet that incentivizes illegal immigration by instituting mandatory E-Verify.

The American LAWS Act is supported by NumbersUSA and FAIR.
