WASHINGTON - Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Save Local Businesses Act, H.R. 3441. This legislation will relieve small businesses of the burdensome and onerous new joint employer rule. This rule created an unbearable legal scrutiny that crippled franchisees and franchisers. The bill passed by a bipartisan vote of 242 to 181.

“As a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, this bill is a bold step towards defending businesses and workers alike. Our legislation provides clarity and certainty for Virginia’s 7th District businesses by rolling back Obama-era regulations that were issued by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).

“Decades before the radical NLRB overturned what worked, businesses and employees knew the rules and thrived. This bill rolls back overreach by unelected bureaucrats and government red tape to return to a common sense definition of employer that will allow business owners to flourish.”
