GLEN ALLEN - Rep. Brat (R-Va.) and members of the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy met with small business owners across the 7th Congressional District. The event served as a forum for business owners to discuss the regulatory burdens they face.
A packed room of over fifty individuals attended the event from a diverse group of industries to share ideas and input for deregulation. Attendees included surveyors, fire protection, IT, financial services, banking, landscapers, truckers, automotive care, sign companies, education, alarm services, healthcare, and cell tower construction.
Rep. Brat released the following statement:
“The willingness of senior leaders at the Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy to make their rounds and come visit the 7th District to hear from small business owners is proof the Trump Administration is committed to listening and wants small businesses to succeed. Today I heard not just stories about inefficiencies here and there, but horror stories across every industry represented about regulations forcing small businesses to permanently shut their doors.
“Federal red tape cost our economy $2.5 trillion and is hindering our ability to compete in a global marketplace with countries like China. Not only that, but with an annual price tag of $15,000 per household, regulations are stealing from the bank accounts of American families. Compliance costs are skyrocketing and stifling the ability of small business owners to grow, hire more workers, and increase wages.
“I believe we can do better and so as the Chairman of the Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access, the ideas gathered today will direct future legislative priorities from my office. By working together, I am confident we can identify legislative solutions to deliver results to hard working Virginia business owners.”
