HENRICO - Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.) participated in a Small Business Challenge facilitated by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB). Before the roundtable discussion, Rep. Brat toured James River Air Conditioning Company in Henrico where the event was held. Over a dozen local business leaders representing the construction, retail, automotive, and service industry attended. Participants shared how the decisions made by policymakers and federal employees in Washington D.C. influence the small businesses sector including compliance costs, tax matters, and regulations.

Following the event, Rep. Brat released the following statement:

“Small businesses are the backbone of our communities and our national economy. During our meeting today, the hard working men and women I met with described the unfavorable tax environment they face as well as the cost of complying with Obamacare regulations. This year Congress and the Trump Administration have made progress scaling back Obama administration’s track record of over-regulation. But we still have a long way to go to bring down the cost of doing business and spur economic growth.”

NFIB issues an annual report card based on how members of congress voted on legislation affecting small businesses. For the 114th Congress, Rep. Brat was awarded the Guardian Award for his 100 voting score.
