WASHINGTON -- Rep. Brat (R-Va.), a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2353, the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act. This legislation aims to update federal policy to empower more Americans to enter the workforce with the skills and knowledge they need to compete for in-demand jobs across our country.

“According to countless employers across my district, the workforce of today is not prepared to meet their immediate needs let alone the employee needs of tomorrow. We need an education system that recognizes four-year colleges and universities are not the only pathway to success for the next generation of students. While Virginia already has robust technical education schools, I firmly believe we need to integrate technical and apprenticeship opportunities throughout the entire K-12 education system. As a former educator, I was pleased to see this legislation receive strong bipartisan support and am optimistic about working to pass additional innovative educational reforms in Congress.”
