WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Dave Brat issued the following statement after Rep. Dave Brat statement on the President's budget:

Yesterday, President Barack Obama sent Congress his proposed $4.1 trillion budget, which includes over $2 trillion in tax increases.

"President Obama’s proposed $4.1 trillion budget will hurt poor families and stifle economic growth,” said Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.) a member of the House Budget Committee.

"The president’s proposed tax on oil would raise the price of gasoline by 24 cents per gallon – an absolutely punishing tax that would devastate poor and middle class families and wreck their budgets. That’s just for starters – the rest of the budget includes over $2 trillion in tax increases.”

"In January, federal debt exceeded $19 trillion -- and this massive presidential wish-list ignores the priorities of working Americans and underscores the need for conservatives to remain strong in their commitment to the future of America by restoring opportunity and balancing the budget in 10 years. Federal spending is out of control, and that is why last year I introduced my Balanced Budget Amendment."
