WASHINGTON - Rep. Brat (R-Va.) made the following statement after H.R. 512, the WINGMAN Act passed with his support in the House of Representatives on February 13, 2017. Congressman Brat was an original cosponsor of the bipartisan bill which will eliminate the burdensome requirement of having the Department of Veterans’ Affairs serve as the middleman for routine casework requests made by certified congressional staff on behalf of local veterans.

“With over 55,000 veterans in my district, my office is routinely asked to step in and advocate on behalf of veterans struggling to get answers from an often unresponsive federal agency. From simple questions about the status of their benefit requests to locating copies of their medical records, my staff has completed dozens of casework requests for veterans. This legislation will help ensure the men and women who served our country get timely access to the benefits and assistance they were promised."
